Dioxins continue to be a driver of many environmental and health related issues. EPA has recently focused on standards for regulation, particularly for remediation and restoration programs. In addition, dioxins are an on-going concern in toxic tort litigation.
This 60-minute webinar will provide a quick summary of the science of dioxins and furans, including chemistry, transport and fate, sources and fingerprinting techniques, and health related standards. We will provide an overview of EPA's draft preliminary remediation goals for dioxin in soil (December 2009) and EPA's recent (June 2010) response to the National Academy of Sciences analysis of dioxin toxicity. Finally, we will explain how people are exposed to dioxin and describe the various human biomonitoring programs and how that information should be interpreted.
