Sustainable Concrete:
Current Trends and Emerging Innovations
Exponent and Gensler welcome you to join us in Exploring the Future of Green Cement and Sustainable Concrete. Exponent's Clean Technology Assessment team and its partners from leading universities will share their insights into the forces driving the demand for sustainable concrete, the trends in lowering carbon footprint of today’s cement, emerging cement technologies and the challenge of optimizing mixes given different application performance needs, different energy and environmental conditions, and economic/cost factors.
Our presentation will review the challenge facing construction, structural engineering, and project management companies as environmental regulation of concrete rises. We will explore the dilemma facing companies as they search for cement and concrete solutions that meet the widely varying performance requirements of highways/airports, utility infrastructure and building construction.
You will hear about the advances in and limits of conventional cement and concrete making materials, and the exciting prospects for new cement materials and concrete life cycle management. The team will discuss the challenges facing project management, construction, and structural engineering in planning for and optimizing the integration of existing and new concrete innovations. Given the growing global demands for concrete, the rising pressure to reduce carbon footprint, the need to ensure technical performance, and cost competitiveness of concrete solutions, we will explore the strategic uncertainties that companies need to address in their use of concrete.
To respond to these needs, you will be invited to join a newly formed collaborative program to assess sustainable concrete technologies that Exponent is leading with the participation of Stanford, Purdue, and Villanova Universities. This program will take the next steps needed to rigorously and objectively assess existing and emerging innovations in low carbon/sustainable cement and concrete. The program will deliver a mix-optimization decision-making tool that will permit participating companies to maximize the sustainability of the concrete solutions across diverse conditions for any end-use of concrete. Join us in exploring the challenges of sustainable concrete and in considering this opportunity.
